ABOUT SAC:
Shabelle Agro-Corporation (SAC) is a private-partnership corporation established to revive commercially viable agribusinesses in Somalia (bananas, sesame-seeds, lemon, mango and grass) and water and irrigation services; water well drilling, animal feed etc.
The Somali banana production has realized it’s peek production of approximately 12 million cartons of 12.5 kg net in 1971/72. Major markets for Somali banana exports included Middle East and Europe. The Somali banana exports played major role in earning top foreign currency and revolving income for the Somalia farmers (economic growth). Banana export is a lucrative and labor intensive business.




Current situation:
Potentials of Somalia Banana Exports: :
The SAC plans to start with 1,000 hectares of designated cooperative/s who currently own available banana plantation in the South West with mutually beneficial agreements . SAC shall seek investment support these cooperative/s to engaging them with basic startups and the technical training of Good Banana Production Practices (GBPP); the necessary farm inputs such as irrigation, fertilizers and processing support. The farmers shall produce quality Somali bananas in the local markets and quickly reclaim its position in the int’l markets.
