SAC considers that the natural markets of quality Somali agri-businesses and banana exports are the Middle East, Iran and the Balkans. According to FAO, the Middle East receives about 30 million cartons of banana imports, mainly from the Philippines and Latin America (2016). The estimated banana consumption of the ME population is about 70 million cartons. Quality Somali banana into the ME has the potential to grow to 6—9 million cartons in the first two years.

As illustrated in the map, below, the bananas are grown along side the equator line (yellow). The rest of the world are consumers and potential markets (red). India is the largest banana producer but consumes locally. Ecuador of Latin America and the Philippines in far East Asia are currently supplying commercial bananas to Middle East—the natural markets for the quality Somali banana
